Anchor answers questions about Indian financial regulation. It uses only a fixed corpus of RBI Master Directions and SEBI Master Circulars. If these documents do not support an answer, Anchor refuses.

An auditable corpus

The corpus has 16 official documents. Each document has a source URL, a hash and a snapshot date. Anchor does not search other documents.

Hybrid retrieval

Anchor does a keyword search and a vector search in PostgreSQL. It then combines the two result sets and puts them in a new order.

Citation checks on the server

The server compares each quotation with the retrieved text. A citation that does not match the retrieved text does not reach the page.

A refusal, not a guess

If the corpus does not support an answer, Anchor gives a refusal. The refusal shows the reason: not in corpus, insufficient support or ambiguous question.

Every research report must disclose any actual or potential conflict of interest: financial interest held by the analyst or their relatives in the subject company, and compensation received from that company in the preceding twelve months.1 It must also carry the analyst’s registration details and the standard disclaimer prescribed for research reports.2

The steps for one answer

1Retrieve

Anchor does a keyword search and a vector search in PostgreSQL. It keeps 30 results from each search.

2Combine and rerank

Anchor combines the two result sets. A reranker then keeps only the text above the support limit.

3Answer or refuse

The model sees only this text. If the support is too weak, Anchor gives a refusal with a reason.

4Check citations

The server compares each quotation with its retrieved text before it sends the answer.

The corpus has 16 official documents in English: 8 RBI Master Directions and 8 SEBI Master Circulars. The manifest in the repository gives the source URL, the hash and the snapshot date for each document. Anchor does not search superseded documents.
